For many students who decide to attend Concordia University, the chance to do paid internships is a key factor. That includes Lenmor Larroza Dimanalata, a Computer Science student who moved to Montreal from the Philippines, and chose to do Co-op as part of his degree.

Concordia’s Institute for Co-operative Studies (more commonly known as Co-op), offers students the chance to alternate study terms with paid work terms.

Larroza Dimanalata has completed two Co-op terms so far, working as a Web Developer and as a Junior Cloud Operations Analyst for companies in Montreal.

Why was it important for you to sign up for Co-op?

If you want to try something in your field, or you not sure yet which field you want to get into, it’s a great way to get some experience. If you’re part of the Co-op program, you’ll get help with your resumé and cover letter, and you’ll get the chance to do mock interviews to get ready for the job search.

Co-op was a key factor for you in choosing where to attend university – but not the only consideration. Why is Concordia the right place for you? If you’re in IT or computer engineering, Concordia is the best place to be, because there are so many things going on, with communities like the Software Engineering and Computer Science Society (SCS) and Hack Concordia. Small example: I went to Yale for a Hackathon and we spent days programming and hacking around. The people you meet become a network that can help you find jobs.

Al the people I know are doing well, working at Amazon and Microsoft. It’s been a great kick-start to my career.
